New York City
I'm home in my apartment in New York working on some lines for an audition for HBO and NBC, feeling very grateful for the life I have and the people that surround me.
It was just announced on Playbill.com that I will be starring in White Christmas on Broadway at the Marquis.
I immediatly took a moment, looked at the article and then took a deep breath. I thought of a time when I was so poor I couldn't afford to pay to see any shows in New York, and Broadway shows? Forget it. I had to eat, pay for dance class, pay rent.
So I had to do what they call "second act" them. The cardinal rule is that you have to be so poor you truly have no other option. Otherwise the karma will bite you back years later. :)
So, around 9:00pm or so I would walk to the theater or show I was targeting....I'd mingle with the people outside, slide my way in with a smile, go to the bathroom and pick up a program someone left (that worked like a charm) or walk down to the orchestra pit and look in...hoping no one would notice I didn't have a seat. Then when they would flash the lights that intermission was over, I would casually turn around and look for a place that had the most empty seats. Another rule, never attempt this at a hit show....you won't find a seat and they will kick you out. Also choose a night that isn't as popular. A Tuesday or Wednesday night was best I found.
I was lucky to see many shows this way. Hello Dolly, Passion, and..... Damn Yankees at The Marquis.
So today, when they announced that I was now going to be starring at that very theater I second acted so many years ago....I saw that 18 year old girl in me....I jumped up and down, cried tears of joy.
I am truly honored, grateful, and blessed.
xoxo,
